Arrest in Lower Merion Principal's Deadly Crash; Shot Fired at Lyft Driver; House Fire w Shots Fired

The Camden County Prosecutor's Office announced on Thursday, 3/10, that an arrest has been made in the deadly accident that killed Lower Merion High School Principal Sean Hughes. 54-year-old Azuka Ossai of Pine Hill is charged with vehicular manslaughter and assault by auto. He turned himself in to Winslow Township Police Department. It happened on the morning of November, 13 2021, at Fleming Pike and Hays Road in Winslow Township. 51-year-old Hughes was taking his son Nolan to a soccer match. Ossai, driving a Mercedes SUV, was speeding when he drove through a stop sign and struck the Hughes' Ford SUV. Sean was taken to the hospital and died a few hours later. Nolan was also seriously injured by survived. Sean Hughes was a beloved member of the Lower Merion community and every school in the district joined in mourning his passing.

A ride share driver was injured when someone fired 12 shots at his SUV while he was waiting for a fare in the Fairmount neighborhood early Wednesday morning, 3/9. It happened around 3 a.m. near 24th and Poplar Streets. The 42-year-old man was inside his vehicle when a white Chevy Impala pulled up. Someone started firing. The driver drove off and went to Philadelphia Police Department headquarters at 15th and Callowhill Streets. There were 12 bullet holes in the side of his car. His passenger window and front windshield were also shot. The man suffered a graze wound and was taken to Jefferson University Hospital. He is in stable condition. No arrests have been made. Police are looking into surveillance from the area.

Philadelphia police and fire crews responding to a house fire in Kensington on Wednesday night, 3/9, encountered a man with a gun shooting from the second floor. It happened around 8 p.m. on the 600 block of East Clementine Street. "Someone fires multiple shots," Philadelphia Police Capt. John Walker said. "The shots hit the top of this unmarked police car. Fortunately, the officers were not in the car, the officers were not injured." The man in his 20s then fell from the second floor window and landed on the side walk. He had been shot in the chin. Police believe it was self-inflicted. He was taken to Temple University Hospital in stable condition. The fire was brought under control within 40 minutes. The man's identity has not been released and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The Indianapolis Colts have traded QB Carson Wentz to the Washington Commanders for draft picks. Wentz spent one year in Indy after being traded there by the Eagles in 2021. He'll face Philly twice a year now in the NFC East.
