18yo Charged in Deadly DUI Crash; 17yo Shot/Killed by 9yo Not Himself; Toddler Killed in Accident

An 18-year-old Montgomery County man has been arrested for a DUI crash that killed one and injured others back in January. Alexander Koenigsberg of Huntingdon Valley has been charged with Homicide by Vehicle While DUI, Aggravated Assault, and related offenses. It happened on Saturday, January 23, near 1017 Greenwood Avenue in Cheltenham. Koenigsberg and the other occupants had been at a birthday party at a bowling alley the prior evening. There was no alcohol served at the party, but Koenigsberg and others left the party to drink in his car. Police say Koenigsberg was driving 62 mph in a 25 mph zone. The area of the crash is at the bottom of a hill with a curve and a narrow bridge. He lost control and went off the bridge. 20-year-old Nicholas Bednarek of Abington was killed in the crash. Koenigsberg had a BAC of .117% and the presence of THC in his system.

"This young man turned his car into a lethal weapon and caused the crash that killed one passenger and injured three teenaged passengers so badly that they will dealing with their injuries for a very long time," said Mongomery County District Attorney Kevin Steele. "Many families were forever altered by this defendant's actions, and my heart goes out to all of them."

A 17-year-old boy has now died from his injuries after being shot inside his Germantown home on Saturday afternoon, 3/12. It happened around 4:45 p.m. on the 300 block of East Ashmead Street. The teen and his 9-year-old half-brother were playing video games when the older teen began bullying and threatening the younger boy with BB gun. The younger boy found a handgun, pointed it at the teen, and pulled the trigger. The teen was shot in the head. He was taken to Einstein Medical Center were he died 90 minutes later. Police recovered a BB gun and a handgun from the scene. The investigation is ongoing.

A 3-year-old girl was killed in a tragic car accident while her grandmother was trying to park in Mayfair on Friday evening, 3/11. It happened around 8 p.m. on the 4000 block of Aldine Street near Frankford Ave. The 46-year-old grandmother was trying to park when the 3-year-old girl came running out to great her. The girl tried to open a car door. The grandmother got out of the car to protect the girl, but did not put the vehicle in park. The car began to roll and pinned the girl against a tree. She was taken to Jefferson Torresdale Hospital and pronounced dead. The woman was also taken to the hospital for injuries to her arm sustained while trying to save the girl. The little girl had just been adopted.
