A former Philadelphia police officer has been indicted by a grand jury in the shooting death of a boy who had initially shot the officer's unmarked car. 26-year-old Edsaul Medoza is charged with first-degree murder, third-degree murder, voluntary manslaughter, and possessing an instrument of crime in the death of 12-year-old Thomas 'TJ' Siderio. It happened on March 1 near 18th and Barbara Streets in South Philadelphia. Four plainclothes officers were in an unmarked car investigating a report of a teenager with a gun. The officers saw Siderio and a 17-year-old, one of whom had a weapon. They approached them in their car and turned on the lights. Siderio fired into the rear passenger window of the vehicle. An officer was injured by broken glass. The grand jury found that Medoza got out of the car and chased after Sederio firing three shots. The initial shot missed. Sederio discarded his gun and at one point and went to the ground. That is when Medoza shot him in the back. "The gun was sitting on the street, below the curb line, nearly 40 feet away. Thus, when Officer Mendoza fired the third and fatal shot, he knew the 12-year-old (5-foot-tall, 111-pound) Thomas Siderio no longer had a gun and no ability to harm him. But he fired a shot through his back, nonetheless, that killed him," Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner said. Medoza was fired for violating the police department's use of force directive. He is currently being held without bail. The Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 5 plans to provide union representation for the former officer.

A Bucks County mother is in custody after she shot and critically injured her two sons and is also accused of attempting to shoot her neighbor on Monday morning, 5/2. 38-year-old Trinh Nguyen is currently charged with attempted murder, but those counts could be upgraded to homicide. It happened around 7 a.m. on the 100 block of Timber Ridge Road in Upper Makefield Township. Nguyen is accused of shooting her two boys, 13-year-old Jeffrey "JT" Tini and 9-year-old Nelson Tini, in the head inside their home. She then approached her 22-year-old neighbor outside the home and handed him a box of photos. She asked him to give the box to her ex-husband. As he turned to face her, Nguyen pointed the gun at him and pulled the trigger twice. It did not fire. The neighbor was able to disarm her and she fled. She was found in her vehicle in the parking lot of Washington Crossing United Methodist Church on the 1800 block of Wrightstown Road in Washington Crossing where she works and taken into custody. She had taken narcotics in an apparent attempt to kill herself. The two boys were taken to Saint Mary's Medical Center. They are on life support, but are not expected to survive. They will be organ donors. Nguyen had been in a dispute with her landlord. She owed $11,000 in back rent. On April 18, a judge had ordered her to move out.

UPDATE: Nguyen was also in a lengthy custody battle with her ex-husband who is the father of her younger son.

A subcontractor died after falling while working on an amusement ride on in Ocean City, NJ, on Monday morning, 5/2. It happened around 10:30 a.m. at Gillian's Wonderland Pier on the Ocean City Boardwalk. 62-year-old Robert Sanger of Pittsgrove fell from a lift while working on the Ferris Wheel. He was a welder and worked for Cargo Tech International. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating the accident.
