The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection issued a Code Orange air quality action day for the Philadelphia region. They are warning for high levels of ozone and pollution in the air in addition to the high heat. Children, elderly, and those with breathing problems are at higher risk. You should try to limit your time outdoors and seek out air conditioning. If you only have a fan, make sure you keep a window open to circulate fresh air. Check out your loved ones and call for help if you experience any heat-related symptoms. Philadelphia schools dismissed early on Tuesday, 5/31, because of the heat. You can find a cooling center here: https://www.phila.gov/services/mental-physical-health/environmental-health-hazards/extreme-weather/cooling-centers/

A Chester County man has been arrested in the deaths of two women and an unborn baby. 23-year-old Mamadou Kallie of Coatesville is charged with two counts of 1st-degree murder, murder of an unborn child, carjacking, fleeing and eluding, endangering the welfare of a child, and related charges. Coatesville police were called to the 300 block of Mount Pleasant Street around 9:20 p.m. Sunday, 5/29, for a domestic dispute involving Kallie and others. Officers cleared the scene and left. Around 10 p.m., Valley Township police responded to a car crash and reports of shots fired on the 300 block of East Glencrest Road. Two women were inside the car suffering from multiple gun shots. One woman was 5-months pregnant and pronounced dead at the scene. Her baby could not be saved. The other woman was taken to Paoli Hospital where she died from her injuries. A 22-month old child was also in the car, but they were not injured. At 10:45 p.m., West Chester police responded to the report of an armed car jacking at Route 162 and Telegraph Road in East Bradford Township. Police stopped the suspect in Caln Township around 11 p.m. It turned out to be Kallie. He exited the vehicle with a weapon pointed at himself, but authorities were able to talk him down. He was placed under arrest. The exact nature of the relationship between Kallie and the women has not been released, but he may have fathered a child with one of them.

Philadelphia Police say that 15 people were killed in separate shootings over Memorial Day Weekend. The city is now at 209 murders for the year, just under last year-to-date. The shootings were spread out across the city. The youngest fatal victim included a 9-year-old that was killed alongside his father in a drive-by in Wissinoming. One person was killed in a massive shootout on Monday evening near 17th and Oxford near Temple University. Police recovered 70 shell casings. Philadelphia Police Commisioner Danielle Outlaw asked for information from the public about any of the shootings. There is a $20,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of homicide suspects. Hundreds of students from nine Philadelphia schools gathered at City Hall on Tuesday for an anti-violence rally. They are part of the group Enough is Enough Students Against Gun Violence.
