Pennsylvania State Police say that a Northeast Pennsylvania man has been arrested after he drove into a crowd of people at a fundraiser before returning home and killing his mother. 24-year-old Adrian Oswaldo Sura Reyes of Nescopeck is charged with two counts of criminal homicide. He is being held at the Columbia County Correctional Facility without bail. On Sunday, 8/14, Sura Reyes drove into a crowd of about 75 people in Berwick who were holding a fundraiser for victims of a recent deadly fire. The fire occurred on August 5 in Nescopeck and claimed the lives of 7 adults and 3 children. Sura Reyes purposely sped up into the crowd and killed 1 person while injuring 17 others. He then returned home. That is where he used a hammer to beat his mother, 56-year-old Rosa D. Reyes, to death. Police were called to the home and arrested him there. The incidents remain under investigation.

The School District of Philadelphia announced on Friday, 8/12, that masks will be required for the first 10 days back to school this year. They will become optional after that period unless the transmission level in the area is high or there is a outbreak in the school or classroom. The CDC also changed recommendations of quarantine and isolation after exposure. "We are implementing mask to stay. Students and staff who have been exposed to COVID-19, regardless of vaccination status, are no longer required to quarantine at home unless COVID-like symptoms are present," School medical officer Dr. Kendra McDow said. "Instead, they may return to school but are required to wear a high-quality, well-fitted mask for 10 days." You can find up-to-date COVID-19 for the school district at: PhilaSD.org/Coronavirus

Almost two dozen teenagers were caught on video ransacking a Jamaican restaurant in Germantown last week. It happened on August 11 at Zion Cuisine on Chelten Avenue near Germantown Ave. The teens entered the store and began throwing chairs and overturning tables. They broke through the store's security glass. Some also threw a bicycle. Police are investigating the incident.
