The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) updated some of its guidance regarding masking on Tuesday, 7/27. Officials now recommend that fully vaccinated people return to wearing masks indoors in those parts of the country that are experiencing high COVID-19 transmission rates. A South Carolina man was convicted on Tuesday, 7/27, of killing a 21-year-old college student from New Jersey after she got into his car, mistaking it for an Uber ride. Nathaniel Rowland was found guilty of murder and kidnapping Samantha Josephson of Robbinsville, New Jersey in March 2019. Josephson was a student at the University of South Carolina at the time. A man convicted of killing a trans woman and LGBTQ+ advocate in May 2019 has been sentenced. 30-year-old Troy Bailey was found guilty of third-degree murder and other charges in the death of 40-year-old Michelle "Tamika" Washington last week. Five stowaways were detained by U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents after they were discovered on a container ship in port in Delaware County. A New Jersey woman has been charged after she was caught on video shouting racial slurs and throwing items at a hotel clerk early Monday morning, 7/19.
