South Street businesses are buzzing over the all the positive development along South Street in Philadelphia near 15th street. The buzz is mostly positive, but not when it comes to the still vacant Royal Theatre on South Street. The Royal was sold to Philadelphia music legend and real estate investor, Kenny Gamble 11 years ago with his promise to revitalize the building. However after an infusion of hundreds of thousands of tax dollars, nothing has changed.

The second-home market has taken a hit from New Jersey to Florida to California to Maine. What happened to Shore prices reflects what occurred nationwide over the last six years. But many Shore points did not fare all that badly in the housing downturn.

Details haven't been revealed yet on a new labor contract for Philadelphia Orchestra musicians, but the national pension fund representing 50,000 musicians says it opposes the contract because it ends the association's participation in the pension fund.

More than four hundred vacant properties in North, South, and West Philadelphia will go up for auction November 16.
The auctions will be held at the Philadelphia Housing Authority's finance office building in the Greater Grays Ferry development.
The available properties range from lots to rowhouses and multiunit buildings, and will be offered individually as well as in groups of up to 25.

The Mummers are an institution in Philadelphia. And prostitution may be the oldest profession. Now the two are tangled after a raid in South Philly Tuesday night. Eleven people were arrested and charged with prostitution and two club members were arrested on liquor charges at the Downtowners Fancy Brigade clubhouse.

Traffic lanes on Market Street and JFK Boulevard have been reduced from four lanes to three for the next two weeks to test if the streets can be more pedestrian- and cyclist-friendly.
The curbside lane on the north side of Market and the curbside lane on the south side of JFK will be closed between 15th and 20th streets.
