A 16-year-old Philadelphia teen has been connected to four murders, including the shooting of a 20-year-old waiting for a ride after being released on bail from Curran-Fromhold Correctional Facility last month. Police made the announcement at a weekly gun violence briefing on Wednesday, 4/28. They say that 16-year-old Ameen Hurst is responsible for 4 recent murders. 20-year-old Rodney Hargrove was released from the Northeast Philadelphia prison facility around 1 a.m. on March 18 after his bail was posted. He was waiting across the street for an hour before he was chased by a vehicle. Hargrove ran back onto the prison grounds through the open gate and the car followed. He was then shot and killed by Hurst. Police say his shooting may have been a case of mistaken identity. There is also an investigation on why the gate was open.

Hurst has been in custody since March 20. He was arrested in connection to a shooting on Christmas Eve, 12/24/20. He is accused of shooting 20-year-old Dyewou Nyshawn Scruggs multiple times on the 1800 block of Wynnewood Road in Overbrook. He is also charged in a quadruple shooting on March 11 on the 400 block of North 76th Street. 24-year-old Naquon Smith and 16-year-old Tamir were killed in that incident.

Philadelphia Police have arrested a man in connection to the deadly shooting at the food court inside Philadelphia Mills Mall last month. 21-year-old Gregory Smith has been charged with murder and related offenses in the death of 20-year-old Dominic Billa-Lewis. It happened just after 5 p.m. on March 29 inside the food court near the orange entrance on the 1400 block of Franklin Mills Circle. A fight broke out in the crowded food court before shots rang out. Billa was shot multiple times in the chest and was pronounced dead. Police used surveillance footage from inside the mall to track down Smith. Billa was the stepson of a detective on Philadelphia District Attorney's Homicide/Non-Fatal Shooting Unit.

A Delmar police officer that was attacked when responding to a "fight in progress" on Sunday morning, 4/25, has been declared "clinically dead" according to Delmar Police Chief Ivan. That was at 12:48 p.m. Wednesday, 4/28, at a Baltimore hospital. 54-year-old Cpl. Keith Heacock responded just after 5 a.m. to the 1100 block of Buckingham Drive in the Yorkshire Estates Community. He was confronted by 30-year-old Randon D. Wilkerson who was reportedly being disorderly, fighting with other residents, and destroying items. Backup was dispatched when Heacock became unresponsive over the radio. He was found unconscious, suffering from blunt force trauma to the head. He was taken to TidalHealth in Salisbury and then transferred to R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore. Wilkerson is also accused of attacking an elderly couple across the street earlier that morning. He was taken into custody and charged with charged with attempted murder, assault, possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony, burglary, assault and terroristic threatening. Delaware Attorney General Kathy Jennings says that charges have been upgraded to murder (see statement below). Heacock was a 22-year veteran. He is survived by a wife and son.
