Miss Pennsylvania USA resigns, alleges Miss USA pageant was fixed.

Miss Pennsylvania USA Sheena Monnin, 27, has decided to turn in her state title and crown and step down after Sunday's Miss USA competition because she says that she has evidence that it was fixed. Monnin wants to distance herself from the Miss Universe Organization, which runs Miss USA, because it does not reflect the same moral integrity she values.

Monnin alleges that the Top 5 were selected before Sunday's show/competition even took place. Another contestant saw the pre-selected list and told Monnin. It wasn't until the same 5 ladies were read off in order on stage that she actually believed that the contest was fixed.

This is Sheena Monnin's statement posted to her Facebook page yesterday:

"I have decided to resign my position as Miss Pennsylvania USA 2012. Effective immediately I have voluntarily, completely, and utterly removed myself from the Miss Universe Organization. In good conscience I can no longer be affiliated in any way with an organization I consider to be fraudulent, lacking in morals, inconsistent, and in many ways trashy. I do not support this system in any way. In my heart I believe in honesty, fair play, a fair opportunity, and high moral integrity, none of which in my opinion are part of this pageant system any longer. Thank you all for your support and understanding as I walk a road I never dreamed I'd need to walk, as I take a stand I never dreamed I'd need to take. After 10 years of competing in a pageant system I once believed in, I now completely and irrevocably separate myself in every way and on every level from the Miss Universe Organization. I remove my support completely and have turned in the title of Miss Pennsylvania USA 2012."

The Miss Universe Organization dismissed Monnin's allegations. They say that she did not resign because she thought the pageant was run illegitimately but because she objected to the organization's decision to allow transgender contestants to compete.

This is part of an email she sent to pageant officials yesterday, "I refuse to be part of a pageant system that has so far and so completely removed itself from its foundational principles as to allow and support natural born males to compete in it. This goes against ever (sic) moral fiber of my being.”

Sheena Monnin describes herself as a Conservative, Christian on her Facebook page. I'm sure that her social views played somewhat into her decision to leave, but why now?

Olivia Culpo, 20, of Rhode Island won the competition Sunday and will represent the United States at the Miss Universe pageant.

Donald Trump has announced Wednesday that the Miss USA pageant plans to sue Sheena Monnin for the allegations she brought against the Miss Universe Organization this week.

Trump told Ann Curry of the Today show, “What we’ve authorized today is we’re going to bring a lawsuit... She said some really strong things. When she’s using the word ‘fraud,’ that’s pretty strong, so we’re going to be suing her on that basis. I did see her for about a second. I never felt that she had a chance, and all this is is buyer’s remorse.’’

They did their own investigation and there was no evidence of a list detailing the 5 finalists in advance of the competition. Also the other contestant that Monnin claims told her about that lists denies that conversation ever took place.

In another interesting twist to the emerging saga, the first-runner up from Pennsylvania, whose only power lies in her ability to take over the crown if the original Miss PA USA is unable to carry on, has declined to take over. If she took the crown now it would disqualify her from competing in the next Miss USA pageant. It's kind of like inheriting a lame duck position, except for all the traveling, special appearances and attention she'd receive for the next few months. There's also no guarantee that she'd win next year. (unless it is actually fixed and she know she'll get the 2013 crown) Doesn't make much sense.

Also, the second runner up declined to take the crown, leaving Pennsylvania without a reigning Miss PA USA altogether.
