I'll Have Another scratched from Belmont Stakes, Miss Pennsylvania USA gets sued

Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes Winner I'll Have Another has been scratched from tomorrow's Belmont Stakes. That will obviously end his bid to be the first Triple Crown winner in 34 years. Not since 1936 has a horse won the first two legs and skipped the third. Trainer Doug O'Neill made the decision to pull the horse and ultimately retire the colt because of swelling in his left front tendon that could lead to tendonitis. There isn't anything that looks visibly wrong with the horse, but it is all precautionary. I'll Have Another is worth a lot of money as a stud whether he runs tomorrow or not, and it is in the horse's and owner's interest to not risk a more complicated injury to attempt a win at the Belmont Stakes. (insert dumb pun: I'll Have Another won't have any more)

Miss Universe Organization has filed a defamation lawsuit against the former Miss Pennsylvania USA Sheena Monnin for her accusations this week that the contest was rigged. Monnin stepped down from her crown on Monday after the Miss USA pageant citing her disgust over her findings that Sunday's top 5 contestants were predetermined. MUO owner Donald Trump denies these allegations and suggests Monnin is a sore loser and has other motives for stepping down, such as the organization's decision to allow transgender participants. On the Today show this morning, Monnin said that there were a myriad of reason why she gave up the crown but the biggest was the contest fixing. The lawsuit was brought in private arbitration, not public court as stipulated by the contestants' contracts. MUO also says that it has a sworn statement from Miss Florida USA saying that no such conversation about seeing the Top 5 listed happened between her and Monnin prior to Sunday's pageant. They are seeking an unspecified large amount of money, although Monnin probably doesn't have that much on her own as a hopeful theology student.

In Sports, Phillies are in Baltimore at Camden Yards this weekend for an Interleague Series vs the Orioles.

Tonight, Partly Cloudy with temperatures in the 70's this evening in Philadelphia.
