Cape May Explosion was caused by Propane; Philly Cop Suspended, Cases Reviewed

The Cape May County fire marshal has confirmed that a propane gas leak caused the explosion that leveled a house in Lower Township yesterday. 67-year-old couple Evelyn and James McCarty were both inside at the time and suffered severe burns. They were taken to Crozier Chester Medical Center and are in critical condition. The explosion happened on the 200 block of East Atlantic Avenue in The Villas. The large blast was felt from a mile away. Neighbors ran toward the house and pulled the couple to safety.

16-year veteran Officer Ronald Dove has been suspended 30 days with the intent to dismiss by Philadelphia Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey. The District Attorney's office and Internal Affairs began investigating Dove in September after his girlfriend, Erica Sanchez, allegedly murdered her ex-husband, Cesar Vera, on Sept 8. It is believed that Dove may have helped Sanchez in the hours after the murders. Police seized Dove's computer, iPad, and SUV. He is being accused of violating departmental policy by failing to cooperate and for lying. Three other of Dove's case are also being reviewed.
