Pennsylvania state prosectors have refiled charges against Robert Kerns, the former Montgomery County Republican Party chairman. Kerns, 66, of North Wales, is charged with raping and sexually assaulted a female paralegal who worked at his law firm. Investigators say it happened after driving her home from an office party last October when the victim may have had too much to drink. Montgomery County District Attorney Risa Vetri Ferman dropped the county's case against Kerns last month after admitting that her staff had misinterpreted lab results and the sleep-aid Ambien was not found in the victim's toxicology. The state's new charges make no mention of the drug. Kerns turned himself in today and was arraigned on three counts of indecent assault, two counts of aggravated indecent assault, one count of rape, one count of sexual assault and one count of simple assault. He posted 10% of $1 million bail.

The Gallery on Market Street announced that a big new tenant will be moving in this fall. Century 21, not to be confused with the realtor, will take over the first two floors of the former Strawbridge & Clothier department store. That space has sat empty since 2006. This will be the first store outside of New York for the retail chain that opened in Manhattan in 1961. Century 21 is known for offering high-end designer clothing at large discounts. The Philadelphia store will open in October.

An outbound SEPTA regional rail train on the West Trenton line collided with a SUV that was stuck on the tracks in Bucks County early this evening. It happened just after 6pm near the Neshaminy Falls station in Bensalem. A group of teens was inside of a red SUV driving along the tracks. The vehicle got stuck and the passengers jumped out just before the train slammed into the truck. SEPTA says that no one on board the train was injured. Passengers were transferred to shuttle buses to finish their trip.
