A Philadelphia jury found 21-year-old Christina Regusters guilty of all six charges today. She was convicted of kidnapping a 5-year-old girl from her kindergarden class while posing as her mother and sexually assaulting her over many hours at her home nearby. Regusters eventually let the girl go in the middle of that January 2013 night and she was found the next morning in an Upper Darby playground wearing only a t-shirt by a passerby. Sentencing is set for December 15th. Regusters had turned down a deal before trial that would have given her 40-80 years, she now faces life in prison. The victim's family is seeking damages from the School District of Philadelphia for allowing someone to just walk in and take their child.

A 14-year-old Newark, DE boy has been arrested for selling heroin. New Castle County Police officers patrolling the area of Colonial Circle and Arnold Court in Newark witnessed the teen make several hand-to-hand transactions. When they approached, he tried to throw away 25 bags of heroin. He was arrested and charged with drug distribution. The teen is being held at New Castle County Detention Center on $10,000 cash bail.

The Philadelphia Housing Authority is all set to implode the Queen Lane Apartments in Germantown this Saturday morning at 7:15 a.m. Those in the 1 block radius “evacuation zone” must be out of their homes by 6 a.m. Those in a two block radius “dust zone” don't have to leave, but depending on the wind they could have dust blow over their homes so keep doors and windows close. Evacuated residents can go to Cook-Wissahickon Elementary School in Roxborough. The apartments, built in 1955, will be replaced by a 55-unit development with a a mix of low-rise flats, walkups and townhouses. A historic marker will be placed for the Potter's Field. The all clear to return could be around Noon.

A large solar storm is predicted to hit the Earth on Friday potentially causing disruption to satellites, radio, and other transmissions but also causing some spectacular views of the Northern Lights, or Aurora Borealis. The direction and strength of solar flare could mean the lights will be visible in some far south latitudes, including Pennsylvania and New Jersey. The lights occur when radiation from the sun interacts with charged particles in our atmosphere. If you are hoping to view the Northern Lights in Philadelphia, there is a chance on Friday night, but the conditions may not be ideal. The moon is still bright, in a waning gibbous phase. There could also be partly cloudy conditions. The best way to view the Aurora Borealis is to go away from the city lights and into an open area.

Tonight,
Partly Cloudy, temperatures in the mid/low 70's this evening in Center City.
