A silent "die in" protest was held this afternoon at 30th Street Station's Grand Hall around 4:15 p.m. The group In Defense of Black Bodies organized the event. There was a large police presence gathered in anticipation of the protest. A few protesters started early, but at the appointed time, a hundred or so people dropped to the ground either lying prostrate if they were black or sitting if they were not. They laid there for 4 ½ minutes to signify the 4 ½ hours the body of Mike Brown laid on a Ferguson street. The protesters then left 30th Street and began to march immediately. They tried to get on 76 and 676 but were turned away by a line of bike cops. They decided to head back and march down Market Street toward City Hall disrupting traffic at rush hour. Just before arriving at City Hall they turned and walked up the Ben Franklin Parkway trying once again to enter 676 at 22th street before looping back to Market and towards City Hall once again where they started disrupted the scheduled 6 p.m. City Hall Christmas Tree lighting ceremony in the courtyard. They even booed a young lady sound checking “Silent Night” and made a lot of noise during the ceremony, which still went off despite the interruptions.

Philadelphia Police are looking for three suspects in a violent attack on a teenager almost 3 weeks ago in Northern Liberties. The incident was caught on surveillance video. It happened at 12:45 a.m. on November 16th in the 900 block of N. 4th Street. The 17-year-old victim had just left a friend's house and was waiting for a ride on a side street when he was approached by the three male suspects. He was sucker punched by one suspect and fell to the ground. Another suspect kicked him in the head. It also looks like someone rifled through his pockets, before leaving him there on the ground. The victim suffered a broken jaw and teeth. There is a $1000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction. Anyone with information on the suspects is urged to call 911 or 215.686.TIPS (8477).

Hundreds gathered tonight outside of the student union at West Chester University for in support of missing Shane Montgomery. The 21-year-old senior went missing seven days ago after leaving a Manayunk bar early on Thanksgiving morning. Hundreds of volunteers have searched the hilly town in Philadelphia and the police marine unit has combed the nearby canal without finding any additional clues. Today, the reward was raised to $31,000 from contributions from the Student Government Association at West Chester University and Bryn Mawr bar The Grog. Authorities are looking into whether a man accused of posing as a US Army ranger last week at the Oxford Valley Mall broke any laws. The man was caught on video and was called out while shopping in suburban Philadelphia by 26-year-old Purple Heart recipient Ryan Berk. Berk noticed inconsistencies with his CIB's, shoes, flag placements, and more. The video of the confrontation went viral and gained the attention of authorities. U.S. Rep. Mike Fitzpatrick has asked the US Attorney to see if this case violated the Stolen Valor act which makes it illegal to impersonate a member of the military to receive a profit. It is not illegal to simply pose as a soldier, but as seen in the video you may get accosted by a real vet.
