Philly Police Thwart Plot Against Convention Center; Man Wanted in Chester Shooting; COVID Cases Up

Philadelphia Police arrested two heavily armed men in Center City on Thursday night, 11/5, and are investigating a possible plot to attack the Pennsylvania Convention Center where ballot counting is underway. Police say they received information around 10 p.m. that a mother, son, and another man were on their way to the convention center in a silver Hummer to 'straighten things out.' A silver Hummer with Virginia plates was spotted parked on the 200 block of North 13th Street at around 10:20 p.m. Shortly after, two bicycle officers encountered the two armed men. They did not have a license to carry firearms in Pennsylvania. The men told officers that the vehicle was theirs. Another gun was found inside. There was a QAnon sticker on the rear window and a full American flag attached to the back. The two men were arrested, charges are pending. The vehicle was still parked on the street as of Friday morning, 11/6. It had received a parking ticket. The FBI and Philadelphia Police are investigating.

UPDATE: 42-year-old Joshua Macias and 61-year-old Antonio Lamotta of Chesapeake, VA, have been charged with Concealed Firearm Without a License, a third-degree felony, and Carrying a Firearm on Public Streets or Public Property, a first-degree misdemeanor. Bail has been set at $750,000 for each. The District Attorney's Office has asked for no bail, but the magistrate set it at $750k and then a judge agreed when the DAO appealed. Macias was carrying a .40-caliber Beretta handgun inside his jacket, while LaMotta had 9mm Beretta in a holster. Police found an AR-style rifle and ammunition in the Hummer. District Attorney Larry Krasner says that they believe this incident was isolated. He said, "we do not have indications that the story is bigger than these two individuals."

Chester Police are searching for a suspect wanted for two shootings outside a hotel last week. Police say that 23-year-old Nathana Thurmond-Willis shot and killed 31-year-old Kenny Mister. It happened on Wednesday, 10/28, just before 8 p.m. in the parking lot of the Days Inn on the 1300 block of Providence Avenue. Mister suffered multiple gun shot wounds and was taken to Crozer Chester Medical Center. He was pronounced dead a short time later. Another man was found shot inside a black Chevy Equinox on the 1400 block of Providence Avenue. His condition and identity were not released. Police believe Thurmond-Willis was responsible for this shooting as well.

Coronavirus COVID-19 cases continue to rise across Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware. Record high case numbers are being reached every day. Health officials are considering adding restrictions, but have not done so yet. They are reminding residents to continue to wear masks, social distance, and wash hands. Also, stay home and avoid indoor social gatherings.
