A 2-year-old boy has been found safe and his father is in police custody following an Amber Alert in the Philadelphia area on Monday afternoon, 4/12. 2-year-old Byron McDonald was located safe and unharmed around 4 p.m. at the Aloft Philadelphia Airport Hotel along the 4300 block of Island Avenue after an employee recognized the car described in the alert. A SWAT Team, police, and firefighters responded to the hotel for a brief barricade situation. The boy, 28-year-old Byron McDonald II, and an unidentified woman were found in a room after a short search of the hotel.

McDonald is suspected of killing the boy's mother and grandmother. The grandmother, 50-year-old Tamara Aikens, was killed around 1:30 p.m. Friday, 4/9, on the 2500 block of North Bancroft Street. That is where and when McDonald is believed to have abducted the boy. The mother, 25-year-old Morgan Tenae Braxton, was found shot to death shortly after 9 a.m. Monday in a home on the on the 4800 block of North 8th Street. Pennsylvania State Police issued the Amber Alert on Monday morning. No charges have been announced.

Pennsylvania officials announced on Monday, 4/12, that it will open up coronavirus COVID-19 vaccine eligibility to everyone ages 16+ starting Tuesday, April 13, instead of next Monday, 4/19, as planned. Eligibility for Phase 1C only just opened today. "We need to maintain acceleration of the vaccine rollout, especially as case counts and hospitalization rates have increased," Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf said. "Therefore, just as President Biden has brought forward universal adult access to vaccines from May 1 to April 19, we are moving Pennsylvania's timeline of universal adult access to April 13." Philadelphia is separate from the rest of the state and still plans on opening up eligibility on April 19.

The School District of Philadelphia announced its plans on Monday, 4/12, for the third and final phase of hybrid learning model for this school year. Phase III will allow students in grade 6-9 to opt in to hybrid learning. Students in grades 10 through 12 with complex needs will also be able to return to in-person classes two days-a-week under the plan. The hybrid classes will start on May 10 for this phase. The opt-in period will be from April 20 to April 27. Teachers and staff will need to report to school buildings on April 26. This now means that most high school students will remain 100% virtual through the rest of the year. The school district also announced that there will be in-person outdoor graduation ceremonies and caps/gowns for the class of 2021 will be provided for free.
