Juniata Body Identified, Bomb Squad To Police Building, Chester Mother's Day Parade Protest

A woman's decomposed body found in the Juniata Park section of Philadelphia early Saturday has been identified as 22-year-old Melanie Colon of North Reese Street. She died from multiple gunshot wounds.

Colon's body was found by a passerby Saturday morning behind an apartment building near Wyoming Avenue.

A bomb squad has taken charge of what police say they believe was a grenade that an elderly man brought in to a police district building in northeast Philadelphia.

Officer Christine O’Brien, a spokeswoman for the Philadelphia Police Department, said no one was injured.

She said she did not know if the device was live or where the man found it and that it is better to call police rather than bring the device in for police to inspect.

The city of Chester has long observed Mother’s Day with a parade in the afternoon but, this year, the Union game forced the parade to move to Saturday instead of Mother’s Day itself. That angered some Chester residents and sparked a small protest at the game.

Michael Brice, organizer, did not get much traction; only a few people joined him outside PPL Park and fans asked about his concerns were mostly bewildered and disagreed with Brice’s premise.
