The No. 2 Deputy al-Queda leader Abu Yahya al-Libi was killed in a drone strike in Pakistan.

U.S. military drone struck a militant compound early Monday morning in North Waziristan in Pakistan’s northwestern tribal area. 15 insurgents were killed in the attack.

Officials characterize al-Libi as irreplaceable in his expertise, ability and influence over al-Queda. al-Libi's death is "a major blow" to al-Queda. He was a close aid to bin Laden's successor Ayman al-Zawahiri.

He was a Libyan citizen in his late 40's, thought to be dead before in 2009, only to reemerge. He had a $1 million bounty on his head. Captured once before in 2002, he broke out in 2005. al-Libi took over the deputy role after Atiyah abd al-Rahman was killed last year, also in a drone attack.

There have been tensions between the US and Pakistan over the use of Predator Drone strikes in the region. Pakistan believes they only encourage more al-Queda recruiting. However, drones strikes are highly effective in targeting specific areas, and bin Laden's own notes talked about how to move under cover of clouds to avoid the danger.

al-Libi's death will certainly disrupt the terrorist organization's communication and cohesion amount it's splintered groups. He is amoung 12 senior leader assassinated since bin Laden's fall.
