Funnel Cloud Over New Jersey Graduation, Philadelphia Bike Lanes, Clergy Abuse Jury Pause
  by: iradiotom - Philadelphia, PA

A frightening low funnel like cloud developed at the outdoor graduation ceremonies at Absegami High School in Galloway Township last evening. Everyone had received their diplomas as the tornado-like cloud appeared on the school's football field. Most ran for cover from the high winds, lightning, hail and rain. Only minor injuries were reported. The cloud was not a tornado, there was no rotation. It was a wall cloud, which can be produced by thunderstorms, and do sometimes turn into tornados. See video below.

Philadelphia City Council has now approved a measure to give itself more of control over the location of bike lanes in the city. Council must approve bike lanes that affect parking or travel. The legislation also gives any new bike lane a required eight-month trial period, to determine if it works.

Jury deliberations in the clergy abuse trial may continue for some time. They have been at it for about a week, but will be getting some time off for graduations of family members. More days off are scheduled for next week if they have yet to reach a verdict.

After being swept by the Dodgers yesterday, the Phillies head to Baltimore tonight for an interleague series with the Orioles.

Mostly sunny today. High 82 in Philadelphia.
