Kensington Pitbull Attack, Oxford Circle Car Shooting, Penn State Must Answer Questions

A mother and son were bitten by a pit bull in the city's Kensington neighborhood Thursday afternoon.
It happened near Coral and Firth streets. Authorities say the dog bit the child in the leg and then bit the mother as she tried to help her son. Police also say the father hit the dog with a hammer to free the boy. Animal Control officers were called to the scene and took the dog away.

A man was shot twice while sitting in his car in the city's Oxford Circle neighborhood, according to authorities. The man was shot once in the head and once in the shoulder. Police say his girlfriend drove him to St. Christopher's Hospital for Children where he is listed in critical condition.

The NCAA said Thursday it expects Penn State to answer a handful of crucial questions stemming from the child sex-abuse case against Jerry Sandusky, any of which could result in sanctions against the school. Whether that could include the so-called "death penalty" — where a program is shut down — seems unlikely, at least for now.
But NCAA leaders have indicated in recent months they are willing to use harsher penalties for the worst offenses. That includes postseason and TV bans.
