An off-duty police officer from the 22nd District is dead, after he was struck by a car around midnight. Police say the incident may have been intentional, the result of an earlier argument between the driver and the officer. The crash happened on the 6800 block of Musgrave Street in East Mount Airy

Five firefighters were injured and 30 people left homeless by an overnight blaze that firefighters say was sparked by lightning. The roof of the building is destroyed, and there is damage to more than a dozen units at the Windsor at Harper’s Crossing Complex in Langhorne. Residents got outsafely, but while fighting the blaze, five volunteer fire fighters were hurt, and taken to local hospitals.

The cause of death for a woman pulled from a submerged vehicle on Sunday morning was drowning. Lower Merion Township Police say a passerby saw the Mazda minivan sinking in the Schuylkill River just beyond the Flat Rock Park boat ramp shortly after 7 a.m. and alerted authorities. Police were able to determine that the victim, 44-year-old Arlene Rossi, was the only occupant of the vehicle and were still trying to determine how the minivan ended up in the river.
