Gov. Chris Christie has ordered that flags on public buildings around New Jersey be lowered to half-staff on Wednesday in honor of those killed in the shooting rampage at a Colorado movie theater. Christie's order follows one by President Barack Obama that flags be flown at half-staff on federal buildings.

A Voorhees police officer was charged Monday with misusing his police powers for personal reasons. Jeffrey M. Tyther is accused of using the State Police NCIC motor vehicle database on September 9, 2011 to get personal information about a female driver he passed in Voorhees. Tyther used the woman's personal information retrieved from the database to find her and “friend” her on Facebook. Tyther, is charged with Computer Theft and Violating the Motor Vehicle Record Law.

Many affiliated with Penn State don’t want the scandal to overshadow the good that comes out of State College. They’re hoping a special annual event will be a step in moving forward. In seven years, the annual War on the Shore event has raised more than $120,000 for pediatric cancer research and awareness. Now in its eight year, the event takes place Saturday July 28th at Jack’s Place Avalon. Tickets for the event, which starts at 5 p.m., are $60 at the door. McNichol also pointed out that the Penn State dance Marathon called THON is the largest student run philanthropy in the world.
