The Phillies have officially thrown in the towel on this season. Shane Victorino is headed out west to join the LA Dodgers. The trade will net the Phillies right-handed relief pitcher Josh Lindblom and Double-A right-handed relief pitcher Ethan Martin.

Victorino won 3 Gold gloves and made two All Star appearances over his 8 years here in Philly. In his 987 games, the Flyin' Hawaiian hit .279 with 181 doubles, 63 triples, 88 home runs, 390 RBI and 179 stolen bases. He was originally drafted in 1999 by the Dodgers in the 6th round. He was a Rule 5 selection by the Phillies from the Padres in 2004. Victorino was due to become a free agent at the end of this year seeking a 5 year deal which the Phillies were not prepared to offer.

Hunter Pence has been traded to the San Francisco Giants for 21-year-old catching prospect Tommy Joseph, outfielder Nate Schierholtz and Class A right-hander Seth Rosin. The deal will clear up salary for Phillies as Pence would likely garner $14 million in arbitration in 2013.

The Phillies are also in talks with the Orioles to move Joe Blanton to Baltimore, however, Blanton's salary may sour that deal.
