Future of Philadelphia Schools, Cop Impersonator Arrested For Rape, Burger King Robbers Caught

The road ahead for the School District of Philadelphia doesn't look good after the release Thursday of the findings of an independent consultant. At the top of the list of recommendations: the district should close between 29 and 77 schools over the next five years. The consultant found the district has far too many empty desks and needs to close dozens of schools to increase the percentage of desks filled, getting that figure closer to 85 or 90 percent. The vacancies will only grow over the next five years, by which time as many as 40 percent of the district’s students will be educated by charter schools.

Philadelphia Police say they have arrested an employee of the First Judicial District who works at the Criminal Justice Center and charged him with impersonating a police officer in order to rape a 15-year-old girl. Jean Casseus of northeast Philadelphia is accused of prowling websites to find his alleged victim, then showing up at her door with a badge, gun and handcuffs, telling her she would be arrested if she resisted his demands. The suspect, following his arrest, is now free on bail and back home.

Three men were arrested in connection with a robbery at a Burger King in Plymouth Township Thursday morning after they were stopped for speeding. The robbery victims were taken to the scene of the traffic stop where they positively identified the men involved in the robbery. All three suspects have been arrested and are charged with a slew of offenses including Robbery, Terroristic Threats, Possession of Instruments of Crime and Assault.
