The Basketball Alumni Legends League, or The-BALL, tipped off their second showcase game tonight at the Hagan Arena in Philadelphia. The game again pitted Team Philly vs. Team DC, featuring former stars from local colleges and universities. Unlike yesterday's debut matchup, which was controlled by DC the entire game, tonight featured great competition and a close battle throughout. DC once again got the edge beating Philly 102-94, but it could have gone either way. DC went on a late run in the 4th to overcome an 11 point deficit and overtake Philly for the W.

The players all expressed excitement after the game, especially being able to come back and play with each other on an organized team and to do it for the City of Philadelphia. For some it's been a while since they've been out of school and playing overseas, so being able to be on a Big 5 / City 6 team is something they want to continue to do every summer when their other contracts are offseason.

Two Team Philly players won't be back on the court again. St. Joe's Pat Carroll and Villanova's Curtis Sumpter are officially retiring from their professional playing days. Tonight they were able to have that sendoff as part of the birth of a new league playing for their college town team. Carroll is already working as a pharmaceutical rep for Merck. Sumpter has plans to go into coaching. He is currently working with the basketball program at Villanova.

The-BALL league hopes to grow next summer to at least 4 teams with a short schedule of games. Philadelphia and Washington, DC will be two of those teams. The other two teams will be determined later. In two years, they hope to expand to a full schedule with teams all around the East Coast.

After this weekend's showcase games, this emerging league has shown they have a lot of potential, a lot of growing to do, but plenty of room to grow into.
