Commonwealth Court Judge Robert Simpson issued a decision today that denied a bid by various civil rights groups looking to block the new Pennsylvania Voter ID law from taking effect. Simpson said that the plainiffs, which included the ACLU and others, failed to prove that “disenfranchisement was immediate or inevitable” or that not issuing an injuction would cause “greater injury.” In fact he said stopping the process now would get in the way of preparations underway for the November 6th elections. The plaintiffs plan to appeal. Reactions fell along party lines, Replublicans praised the decision who pushed the law through as a measure to prevent voter fruad, where as Democrats hope to see a more favorable result on appeal and see it as a thinly veiled means of voter suppression. Despite that, all groups are focused on try to get people the identification they will need on election day.

A woman was killed this morning when she accidentally walked off the platform at the Lombard-South subway station and fell to the tracks. The 30-year-old South Philadelphia woman was either electrocuted by the third rail at about 2:19 am when she fell or when she was eventually hit by a north bound train at 5:01 am. The station had been closed for two hours when surveillance video showed her stumble in and then off the platform. The medical examiner will have to perform an autopsy to determine toxicology and cause of death.

About 4 million of the wildly popular Bumbo baby seats are being recalled. There have been reports of about 2 dozen incidents where babies fell out of the seat and suffered a skull fracture. Some of those incidents occurred when the seat was placed on a raised surface like a table, other times it was just on the floor. Most of these accidents don't really have anything to do with the seat, but just parents not following instructions or warnings. Don't put the “floor” seat up high and don't leave the baby unattended, they can wiggle out of the chair. Bumbo reccommends that you stop using the seat and contact them for additional instructions and a special recall safety belt. http://www.recall.bumbousa.com
