I-95 Collision Victim ID'd, Father McCormick Felony Charges Dismissed, New SEPTA Chief of Police

Delaware State Police say a Maryland man was killed when a tractor trailer and a box truck collided on I-95 at 3am Thursday. Abubaker Jamal was driving a tractor trailer northbound when he made an illegal U-turn at an emergency crossover to travel south. The tractor trailer went into the path of a box truck traveling south driven by Abodunrin Akinyanju, whom was pronounced dead at the scene.

A Philadelphia judge Thursday dismissed the most serious charges against a local priest after a former altar boy testified he was sexually assaulted as a fourth grader 15 years ago. The judge ordered defendant Father Andrew McCormick to face trial on the remaining misdemeanor charges, but prosecutors say they will refile the felony charges against the priest. The witness testified there was touching, groping, and McCormick tried to force him to perform oral sex. The victim testified that the priest’s sex organ was forced past his lips but not past his teeth, and Judge Karen Simmons ruled that the act did not meet the legal definition of “penetration” as required for a felony.

SEPTA has hired a new Chief of Police. Thomas Nestell III will join the SEPTA organization as Chief of Police on Monday. Nestell was formerly Chief of Police of Upper Moreland Township but will now head the SEPTA Transit Police Department. He has earned 24 commendations for Merit, Heroism and Bravery during his service.
