USADA Strips Lance Armstrong of Tour titles; Bans cyclist for life

The U.S. Anti-Doping Agency has decided to strip Lance Armstrong of his unparalleled seven Tour de France cycling titles and impose a lifetime ban from competition after Armstrong decided he was done fighting the doping claims and declined to enter USADA's arbitration process. The agency took this action as an admission of guilt and promptly announced their decision and actions on the matter.

Armstrong denies any and all allegations of doping and points to the numerous tests he's passed over his career. He also questions the authority of the USADA to strip titles from an internationally governed sport. According to Armstrong, his decision to stop fighting the charges was one of frustration and fatigue. ''I have been dealing with claims that I cheated and had an unfair advantage in winning my seven Tours since 1999,'' he said. ''The toll this has taken on my family and my work for our foundation and on me leads me to where I am today — finished with this nonsense.''

Armstrong's improbable come back from cancer and rise back to the top of a grueling sport make him a hero and inspiration to many. It also gets a lot of people to ask the question, "How can he do it?" Many believe in his sheer determination, will, and competitive spirit. While others have been searching for something else that Armstrong may have used to keep himself going. The USADA have closed their book on it. Most people probably have their opinion one way or the other, but without physical evidence, it's impossible to know the truth.

Besides Armstrong's bike riding career, he has done great work for cancer survivors and sufferers around the world. His foundation, Livestrong, has raised hundreds of millions over the years and put that money towards educational programs, research, and outreach. His name his tied as much to his work with cancer as it is to cycling.

Here is Lance Armstrong's Statement
