Rafael Jones Charged with Murder; Former Archdiocese CFO Sentenced

Less than a week after he was killed, Police have one of two suspects in custody and charges have been filed against Rafael Jones in the murder of off-duty Officer Moses Walker Jr. Jones confessed to Homicide detectives late Wednesday night after being apprehended on a bench warrant for missing a parole appointment, at which he was going to receive his electronic monitoring device. Jones was released from prison in August 8th following a probation violation. He is being charged with 1st degree murder, robbery, gun charges, and other related offenses. They have named a second suspect. The second man sought is Chancier McFarland, 19, of 23rd Street near Master in North Philadelphia.

The former chief financial officer for the Archdiocese of Philadelphia was sentenced this morning to 2 to 7 years in prison. Anita Guzzardi plead guilty in July to embezzling more than $906,000 during a seven year period starting in 2004. Guzzardi suffered from gambling and shopping addictions as well as depression that led her to steal and write checks to herself. She is ordered to pay restitution and will also serve 7 years probation.
