Concern over West Nile Virus cases in the Philadelphia area and the booming mosquito population thanks to all the recent rain, has many communities spraying as a preventive measure. Philadelphia will be spraying Fairmount Park today. Meanwhile, homeowners are keeping companies like Mosquito Platoon (855-867-7729) busy spraying for mosquitos in their own yards.

Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter takes the stage in Charlotte tonight at the Democratic National Convention, a prime time exposure opportunity. The chance to open for the President has some speculating that Nutter could be in line to move into a position in the White House if the President is re-elected.

Acme is closing three stores in the Philadelphia area as the company faces managing billions of dollars in debt. Underperforming Acme stores in Sharon Hill, Morrisville and Glassboro, NJ will be shut down in cost cutting moves as sales have declined and operating costs have increased.

The Phillies have the day off and open a series at home with Colorado tomorrow.

Mix of sun and clouds. Chance of a passing shower. 87 in Philadelphia.
