The PA Supreme Court has sent back the Voter ID appeal to the lower Commonwealth Court to assess the current availability of alternative forms of identifications. These forms include the easier obtain Department of State ID available at PennDOT centers. When the law was first passed it called for more a stringent ID to be used at the polls like a PennDOT ID that requires a proof of identification like birth certificates and social security cards that older residents cannot recover from their past. The Supreme Court ordered the lower court to determine if the current status of the availability of all forms of ID meets the liberal access defined by the law and if it still feel there will be no disenfranchisement upon implementation of the statue come November. If the lower court doesn't think that the state can meet those two goals then there will be an injunction entered to stop the enforcement of the law.
