Patti Smith to receive Hepburn Medal from Bryn Mawr College

Rocker Patti Smith has been named the 2013 recipient of the Katharine Hepburn Medal from Bryn Mawr College. She will be presented with the award at a gala event on February 13th 2013. Smith was a trailblazer in the world of rock dominated by men. Her 1975 debut Horses is still rated as one of the best of all time. She was a huge force and influence on the New York punk scene during the 1970's and beyond. Smith is credited as being a poet, musician, writer, photographer, and artist. She was inducted into the Rock and Rock Hall of Fame in 2007.

The award in named after the academy award winning actress who was a member of the college's class on 1928. Previous medal winners are Lauren Bacall, Blythe Danner, Jane Golden and Helene Gayle.
