Voter ID Law Put On Hold; Divine Lorraine Hotel Sold; Video Four Suspects Attack Man in Supermarket

A Commonwealth Court judge issued a temporary injunction today against the controversial Voter ID law. The injunction will prevent the full law from going into effect for the upcoming election. Registered voters will not be required to have a valid ID in order to fill out a ballot on election day Nov. 6. Judge Robert Simpson did not find a problem with asking voters for ID, but felt that having those without ID fill out provisional ballots could lead to disenfranchisement. The law was upheld, just will not be implemented at this time. An appeal is still possible.

Developer Eric Blumfield took control of the history filled and beleaguered Divine Lorraine Hotel on North Broad Street. He purchased the title today at the city's monthly Sheriff's sale as the lone bidder. Yesterday he purchased an outstanding note from the previous owners in New York, Amalgamated Bank. Blumfield is now responsible for all outstanding liens and taxes against the building, which are upwards of $8 million. He plans to convert the upper floors into rentals with the bottom level reserved for restaurants. Blumfield is no stranger to the neighborhood having already worked on several renovation projects on North Broad.

Police are looking for four suspects who attacked and robbed a man inside a supermarket in Northeast Philadelphia. The entire random assault was captured by the store's surveillance cameras. Inside the store the suspects approached a 47-year-old man who was browsing in the freezer section. Initially it looks like they were verbally taunting the man. Then it became physical and the man was kicked and punched and struck with a glass bottle. His money clip containing $100 cash was stolen. The suspects, 3 men and 1 women are described as Hispanic and around 20 years old. Anyone with information on the suspects is asked to call 911 or 215-686-TIPS (8477).
