Disgraceful. That was the word Philadelphia City Council heard Thursday from former Fire Commissioner Roger Ulshafer to describe emergency management at the Kensington warehouse fire in April that killed two firefighters. City Council is probing to determine if proper safety controls were in place during the 5 alarm blaze.

The cleaning lady who stole the $3 million Ben Franklin bust says she did it because she was mad about being fired. At a preliminary hearing, Andrea Lawton who was part of the cleaning staff at a Bryn Mawr mansion, said that after she was fired, she had an accomplice break in and steal the statue in hopes of getting her boss fired. She knew it was valuable, buy had no idea it was worth $3 million.

For the first time in 25 years, students at the Morton McMichael elementary school in West Philadelphia have a library. 20,000 books have been donated and volunteers have worked all summer to create an inviting space for students to enjoy. Studies show that schools with libraries have higher achieving students.
