US Senator Arlen Specter died Sunday morning at his home in Philadelphia at the age of 82 from complications of non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. His career was marked by what the pundits and Specter himself called 'fierce independence.' Specter first made it into national prominence by serving as assistant counsel for the Warren Commission, which investigated the 1963 assassination of Pres. John F. Kennedy. A funeral service will be on Tuesday, October 16 at Har Zion Temple at 1500 Hagys Ford Road, Penn Valley, PA and will be open to the public (no camera’s or recording devices).

Police in New Castle County, Delaware are investigating a shooting early Sunday morning that left three people injured. Police were called to the 200 block of Morgan Crossing Apartments just after 12 a.m. for a report of a large fight with gunshots. All three victims were treated at Christiana Hospital. Police are urging anyone with information regarding the shooting to call the New Castle County Police Department.

Negotiators for Penn State say they have reached out to begin settlement talks with at least 20 men who accuse assistant coach Jerry Sandusky of sexual abuse, but they describe their discussions as preliminary. Attorney Michael Rozen says he and partner Ken Feinberg have been meeting with attorneys for the men and he’s optimistic that claims against the University can be settled.
