Radnor Township police have arrested a 76 year old man in an attempted kidnapping plot. John Fedler of Miami Florida dressed as a flower delivery person, tased a man in his Villanova home and was planning to kidnap and hold him for ransom. The victim was able to disconnect the taser cables and Fedler fled. Fedler was tracked down because of a parking ticket he received outside the florist where he bought the flowers used in the attempt. He was arrested in the Poconos trying to buy a gun at a gun show, near a place he had rented where he planned to hide his kidnap victims.

A Southwest Philadelphia music teacher has won $10,000 and an award for her story about a teenager coming of age in North Philly. Alandra Abrams of Tilden Middle School was one of two winners in the “Futures Without Violence’s Respect! Challenge. In her story, the teen went on to a better future, guided by her middle school music teacher.

Mayor Nutter is urging homeowners to file homestead exemption forms today if they are planning on the tax advantage for 2014. Homeowners can wait until next summer to apply, but filing today will show the $30,000 exemption on the new assessments to be mailed out in February. The form is available at opa.phila.gov
