Former Philly Cop Charged, Council Debates Bikes, Baby Born on PA Turnpike

Charges were filed today against former Philadelphia Highway Patrolman Jonathan Josey for punching a woman at the Puerto Rican Day festival in September. D.A. Seth Williams reviewed the video and saw that the situation was hectic, but use of force was not necessary. Josey is charged with simple assault.

Making Philadelphia’s streets safe for motorists and bicyclists was debated today by City Council. In a bill scheduled to take effect in 2013, drivers of cars would be required to check for bikes before opening street-side doors, and be fined for parking or stopping in a bike lane. Cyclists could only ride side by side if auto traffic is not impeded.

A baby was born on the shoulder of the Pennsylvania Turnpike this morning. The pregnant mom and dad were on the way to the hospital when the baby decided that it was time. So inside a Toyota Prius between Fort Washington and Norristown a new baby boy was born. Dad delivered the infant with direction on the phone from a 911 operator. Mom, Dad and baby are all doing fine at Einstein Medical Center in East Norriton.

Weather
A few clouds tonight. Down to 33 in Philadelphia.
