Roller Coaster Will Be Removed, Philadelphia Winter Weather Update, Obama Visit to Montgomery County

The roller coaster sitting in the ocean thanks to Hurricane Sandy will not stay there. Seaside Heights Mayor Bill Akers said last week that the submerged coaster could make a great tourist attraction. Yesterday he admitted that “was not the brightest comment” and the roller coaster remains would be removed. A new boardwalk is expected to be built by Memorial Day.

A wintry mix is making travel difficult around Philadelphia. Some areas North and West of the city saw heavy snow develop at rush hour, slowing traffic and causing some fender benders. Closer to the city roads are just wet with more rain than snow. As the day progresses precipitation is expected to make afternoon rush hour even more difficult. Close to the city we’ll see a coating to an inch, North and West suburbs could see 3 to 5 inches of snow.

President Obama is coming to the Philadelphia area this week to pitch Republican support for his tax strategy for dealing with the looming fiscal cliff. Obama will be in Hatfield, Montgomery County on Friday capping off a week of public outreach. Obama wants support for a plan that would increase taxes on the wealthy while extending tax cuts for the middle class.

Sports
The 76ers host the Dallas Mavericks tonight.

Weather
Rain and snow mix close to the city. All snow North and West leaving 3 to 5 inches. Up to 38 in Philadelphia.
