Missing Woman Returns, Montgomery County Budget Cuts, 12 Year Old Locked in Bedroom for 2 Months

The 38-year-old Delaware County woman who went missing November 18th after a trip to the grocery store, has returned home safely to Essington. She says she just needed to get away. Debra Sullivan Miller was the subject of a nationwide search after she disappeared without a trace. While she had disappeared, she did not contact her family, she missed her 14 year old daughter's birthday and Thanksgiving. Miller claims she hopped on a Greyhound bus and headed to Orlando, Florida. She flew back to Philadelphia last night.

Montgomery County Commissioners listened to testimony this morning from 20 residents, non-profit groups and their clients whose funding has been eliminated from the proposed 2013 budget. The County eliminated almost $1 million earmarked for 17 nonprofits and about $5 million from Montgomery County Community College. Most of the speakers were advocates of the ARC Alliance which helps disabled children and their families get the services they need. However, County Commissioners regrettably informed them there was no room in the budget.

A 12 year old Newark, Delaware boy was rescued today after being locked in a room by his parents for the last two months. The boy’s father and stepmother were arrested and charged with felony abuse. The boy escaped from his home and went to a neighbor who called police. Locked in his room since September, police found the doorknob installed backward so it could be locked from the hallway. Also the window was screwed shut. Detectives say the child was malnourished because of restricted feeding.

Weather
