Tiny Caskets in Newtown, Final Tanker Car Removed, Camden’s Homicide Record

The procession of tiny caskets began today in Newtown, Connecticut beginning a week of funerals for the children killed at Sandy Hook Elementary School. Six year olds Noah Pozner and Jack Pinto are being buried today. Police say the shooter carried enough ammunition to kill almost everyone in the school. However he took his own life when police arrived.

The final tanker car of the freight train derailed in Paulsboro, New Jersey has been removed. Seven cars derailed on November 30th and one car ruptured spewing vinyl chloride into the air and water. The Federal Railroad Association now will focus on making sure the swivel-style bridge is repaired and safe before the span re-opens.

Camden’s homicide count rose to 66 for the year this weekend. That’s a new record for murders in a single year. A 36 year old Gloucester Township man, Rahkeem Byrd was shot in a house on the 1100 block of Thurman Street on Saturday. Camden has one of the highest homicide rates in the country – 11 times the national average and twice that of Philadelphia this year.

Sports
City Six action tonight, Temple hosts Alcorn State.

Weather
