Newtown Schools Reopen, Fiscal Cliff Talks, One Train Shooter Arrested

The funerals continue today in Newtown Connecticut. Today 6 year old Jessica Rekos will be laid to rest. Six schools in Newtown reopened today. But not Sandy Hill Elementary. The scene of Friday’s massacre is still an official crime scene. Investigators will be working for months examining every angle and interviewing witnesses, including children, as they try to understand what happened.

In negotiations to avoid the looming fiscal cliff, President Obama has agreed to curtail cost-of-living increases for Social Security recipients. According to observers familiar with the talks, he also softened his demand for higher taxes on upper income earners. Obama met with House Speaker John Boehner, however the parties are still far apart on issues like a new eligibility age for Medicare.

One of the two brothers who allegedly fired a gun into a SEPTA train last week, is now in custody. Sixteen year old Eric Early has been charged with aggravated assault. Older brother, 18 year old Matthew Early is still at large. Matthew Early is believed to have pulled the trigger, shooting two men after an argument on the train.
