Sniper Kills Firefighters, Obama Returns from Hawaii, Legal Marijuana Advocates Have Hope for PA

An ex-convict killed two firefighters in upstate New York, then himself and possibly his sister after he set his neighborhood on fire Christmas Eve. And he left a note. 62 year old William Spengler set his own house and neighbors on fire. Then, when first responders arrived, Spengler opened fire killing two firemen, then himself. His 67 year old sister was found dead inside their torched home. Police say part of a note left reads "I still have to get ready to see how much of the neighborhood I can burn down, and do what I like doing best, killing people."

President Obama will cut his Hawaiian Christmas vacation short this year to try and help his country avoid the looming fiscal cliff. Congress reconvenes in Washington Thursday when Obama returns. Automatic budget cuts and tax increases will begin in January unless a fix is agreed on. Many economists agree that if an alternative plan is not reached, the country could go back into recession.

Referendum votes to legalize recreational use of marijuana in Colorado and Washington are giving hope to some that Pennsylvania may be next. Montgomery County based Senator Daylin Leach sponsored two medical-marijuana bills that died in the last legislative session, but he believes passage in other states may reveal the falsity of the horror stories about legalizing pot. PA Governor Tom Corbett has vowed to veto any pot legalization bill.
