Delaware National Guard Heads to Afghanistan, Girl Shot NY Eve Dies, Charges Dropped in El Shooting

A Delaware based National Guard unit is preparing to head for Afghanistan to train national security forces there. 120 members of the unit from Dealaware City will do a 12 month tour of duty relieving Montana's 44th Military Police Company in the training of Afghans in security operations. Governor Jack Markell and Jill Biden were on hand for the send-off ceremonies today.

The 10 year old Pennsylvania girl hit by a stray bullet New Year’s Eve has died. Aaliyah Destiny Boyer of Manheim, PA died at Dupont Children’s Hospital in Wilmington. Boyer collapsed while outside watching fireworks when a bullet struck the girl in the top of the head. It is presumed the bullet was fired into the air in celebration and struck and killed the girl when the bullet came back down.

All charges have been dropped against the younger brother of the teen who allegedly shot a Chicago Bulls fan on a SEPTA train. Sixteen year old Eric Early was with his older brother when Matthew Early brother pulled a gun and shot a man on the El train after an argument. Matthew Early is in custody.
