Nutter DC33 Final Offer Rejected, Delaware 2nd Flu Death, Eagles Hire Chip Kelly

Mayor Nutter on Wednesday delivered what he calls his "final offer" to the largest city worker union, District Council 33. The union rejected the proposal, prompting Nutter to declare that the talks are deadlocked. It offers no retro pay, and 2.5% wage hikes from the date of ratification through July 2014, calls for changes in the union’s health care and pension plans, and allows for furloughs. Nutter says the union has until the end of the month to respond, at which point other options will be considered.

There’s been a second flu-related death in Delaware. Officials say a 79-year-old Sussex County woman died from the flu. She apparently had several underlying health conditions. On Tuesday, health officials confirmed a 2-month-old baby had died of the flu. Anyone over the age of 6 months who hasn’t been vaccinated is urged to get the flu shot.

Philadelphia Eagles hired Chip Kelly as the new head coach on Wednesday, just 10 days after he decided to stay at Oregon. Kelly becomes the 21st coach in team history and replaces Andy Reid. He’ll be introduced at a news conference today at 1:30 p.m. at the Eagles’ practice facility.
