Charges Dropped in Mentally Disabled Kidnapping, Bucknell Inflated SAT Scores, Trenton Gun Buyback

The Philadelphia prosecutors involved in the case of kidnapped mentally disabled adults will drop its charges leaving it up to federal prosecutors to pursue charges. Linda Weston, her daughter and two others will now face charges of hate crimes and two murder counts. Five disabled adults were rescued from Weston’s locked Philadelphia basement where they had been beaten and starved, allegedly so Weston could steal their disability checks.

Bucknell University’s president has reported that an internal investigation has turned up evidence that school officials falsified its students’ SAT scores. John Bravman sent a letter to students, alumni and staff apologizing for the misrepresentation which increased the average SAT score by about 16 points. The discrepancy occurred over the last seven years at the exclusive liberal arts school in Lewisburg Pennsylvania.

A two day gun buyback program in Trenton New Jersey collected more than 2,500 firearms. Some legal some not. Residents of Mercer County were paid $25 to $250 for each weapon depending on condition and legality of the gun. $100,000 had been budgeted for the program but because of the huge turnout, organizers ran out of money and had to give vouchers to participants.
