Nor'easter Snowstorm Will Impact Philadelphia, Gun Buyback Competition, Queen Village Fire

We're talking about snow in the forecast again, but it appears Philadelphia will avoid the dumping they'll get in the Poconos and points north. A Nor'easter is forming but our air is warm enough that we’ll get rain most of the day Friday after it starts as snow in the morning. As the temperature drops Friday the changeover to snow could leave a few inches Friday night into Saturday.

UPDATE: A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for Philadelphia and points South and East from 5 PM Friday To 6 AM Saturday. Anywhere from 2-5 inches of snow expected in this area.

A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for areas North and East of the city. Montgomery and Bucks counties could see accumulations of 4-8 inches of snow from this storm.

A gun buyback program in Bensalem ran into some unexpected competition from gun advocates offering to pay higher prices for the better guns. Township officials offered to pay between $50 and $200 for any weapon. The gun advocates paid higher prices for some of the better guns destined for destruction in the buyback. The gun collectors admitted that most of the guns turned in were junk.

There was an underground cable fire in Queen Village this morning that caused the evacuation of several residents as 56 people were without power while PECO worked on the problem. Wires at Fifth and Passyunk caught fire at about 4 am. Power was restored by about 8 and people were allowed back into their homes to warm up.

Sports
Tonight the Flyers have the Florida Panthers. Drexel hosts Old Dominion.

Weather
Cloudy skies today. 36 in Center City.
