Cardinals Gather to Elect Pope, Flower Show Attendance Down, Philadelphia St. Patrick’s Day Parade

As Cardinals gather in Vatican City, the excitement is building in anticipation of the Conclave that begins tomorrow for the election of a new Pope. Tomorrow the Cardinals will begin the day with Mass and then in the afternoon, there will be one round of voting. It may take a couple days before we see the white smoke and a new Pope is named.

The Philadelphia Flower Show ended yesterday recording its lowest attendance in over 10 years. Down 17% from last year, the Flower Show drew 225,000 visitors. The Pennsylvania Horticultural Society blames snow forecasts last week for the cancellations of scheduled bus tours.

Yesterday was a perfect day to bring out the Irish for the city’s 243rd parade. Philadelphia is home to the country’s second oldest St. Patrick’s Day Parade. Close to 200 organizations let their Irish pride show with bagpipes and traditional Irish music as thousands enjoyed the day along the Parkway parade route.
