NJ Freeholders Prison Plans, Nutter New Budget Today, Gloucester Abducted Girl Found

Freeholders in Gloucester and Cumberland Counties have approved a regionalization plan that will, in effect, close the Gloucester County Prison. Male inmates will be housed in Cumberland and perhaps Salem County as soon as this summer. This move could save upwards of 10 million dollars a year.

The great property tax controversy of 2013 will be front and center this morning as Mayor Nutter delivers his new budget to city council. He is expected to talk about the need for three types of relief measures for some property owners: a homestead exemption, further relief for homeowners in gentrified neighborhoods, and buffers for owners of mixed used properties. Nutter wants all of this while trying to keep the base tax rate as low as possible, an expected 1.35%

Police in Gloucester Township, New Jersey say they have located a 1-year-old girl who was abducted from a daycare Wednesday evening. 19-month-old Anyla Moore of Pine Hill was found safe and unharmed at a residence in Pennsauken. The girl was picked up at Clementon KinderCare by her biological father Angelo Davis, who is not authorized to pick her up. When the girl’s mother arrived at the daycare just before 6 p.m., she was told that 22-year old Angelo Davis had picked up the child about one hour earlier. The mother called police fearing that her daughter was in danger because of Davis’ violent past, and possible drug use. Davis also has a history of mental health issues. Davis was arrested and charged with Interference of Custody and was being remanded to Camden County Jail in lieu if $7,500.00 bail. The child has been reunited with her mother.
