Pilot Impersonator at PHL; PA House Passes Liquor Privatization; Woman Found Dead Hit by Car

Authorities have arrested a man at Philadelphia International Airport for impersonating a pilot. The incident happened on a US Airways flight set for West Palm Beach, FL at around 6:30 pm on Wednesday. 61-year-old Phillepe Jeannard of La Rocelle, France, who was a ticketed passenger for the flight, was sitting in the jump-seat behind the captain's chair in the cockpit of the airplane. He identified himself as a 747 pilot for Air France but became argumentative when asked to produce credentials and was removed from the flight and detained. Police found a counterfeit Air France crew member ID card on Jeannard and determined that he is neither a pilot nor an employee of Air France. He is charged with Criminal Trespass, Tampering with Records, Impersonating a person Privately Employed, and False ID to law enforcement and held on $1 million bail. He is expected to be charged federally on Friday.

The Pennsylvania House of Representatives has voted to pass a bill that would privatize the sale of wine and liquor. The historic vote passed 105-90. The bill calls for the gradual sell off of licenses to private holders. Beer distributors and retailers will have the first shot at the new private licenses followed by others, such as supermarkets or big box stores, that will be given a chance to get in on the liquor game. The State Stores will be phased out over time, although some may be allowed to remain. The bill will now head to the Senate where the issue of liquor privatization has not been a matter of active interest, at least not as much as the House. There is a sentiment in the Senate, even amongst Senate Republicans, that favors modernization of the State Store system instead of privatization. Expect at least lengthy discussion before anything happens to the measure.

Police have concluded that a 54-year-old woman found dead in Cumberland County, NJ was run over and that the driver did not wait around for police to arrive. Bernadette Montgomery, from Delaware, had just gotten of a New Jersey Transit bus before her body was found Wednesday night at McCormick Place and Orange Street in Bridgeton. Her body was found by two women around 6:30 pm. Surveillance shows a NJ Transit Bus travelling down the road just minutes before her body was found. Police interviewed most of the drivers of vehicles on that video including that bus driver. More will be known after an autopsy on Friday.
