Student Honored Saved Police Officer, Rutgers Coach Firing Reaction, Mayor Nutter Veto of Sick Leave

In Upper Darby a student was honored for saving a police officer's life. Amanda Beale, a 23 year old grad student at Thomas Jefferson University helped to save 43 year old Radnor cop Anthony Radico who went into cardiac arrest while working out at Planet Fitness in Clifton Heights. Beale called 911 and administered CPR until emergency crews arrived. Beale received a commendation from Upper Darby Township Council.

Firing Rutgers basketball coach Mike Rice was the right move say many, including Governor Christie. It’s “not enough” say others who are calling for an investigation and dismissal of the Athletic Director and the University President. Then there’s Chipper Jones, retired Atlanta Braves All Star who tweeted about the incident that he was cursed and yelled at by plenty of people, and “did they get fired? Nope. Toughen up.”

Today, Mayor Nutter delivers his veto of a bill that would require all Philadelphia businesses to offer paid sick leave. The Chamber of Commerce opposes the bill saying it would be crippling to small businesses. City Council has until next week to decide whether it will attempt to override.
